Srinagar, Oct 17 (KNO): Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, on Saturday called for the removal of IAS officer Kumar Rajeev Ranjan from Jammu and Kashmir over his alleged misconduct with a junior woman JKAS officer. The controversy has drawn widespread condemnation from various sections of society in the Valley. The row erupted after a purported video of an official virtual meeting held on October 14 surfaced on social media, allegedly showing Ranjan using abusive language against JKAS officer Beenish Wani during a discussion on Mission YUVA. Following the incident, the Jammu and Kashmir government ordered an inquiry and directed that a report be submitted within 15 days. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam termed the incident “extremely unfortunate” and said the officer should be sent out of the Union Territory. “This is an extremely unfortunate matter, and it has been condemned by people from all sections of society. I believe such an officer should not be kept here and should be sent out of Jammu and Kashmir so that people can feel reassured that officers serving here respect the dignity and self-respect of others while discharging their administrative duties,” he said—(KNO)
